How to Convert a PDF to Word (Editable)
Got a PDF whose text you need to edit? Converting it to Word (.docx) gives you an editable document in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs. Here’s how, and when it works best.
What the conversion does (and doesn’t)
The conversion rebuilds the PDF’s text into an editable Word document. It works great on “text” PDFs (created from a word processor). A scanned PDF, however, is an image: in that case you first need text recognition (OCR).
Convert a PDF to Word, step by step
1. Add your PDF file.
2. Start the conversion to Word (.docx).
3. Download and open the document in your editor.
Should you expect layout differences?
The text is recovered faithfully, but a very complex layout (columns, boxes, unusual fonts) may need a few tweaks after conversion. That’s normal: Word and PDF handle layout differently.
The other way round: Word to PDF?
To lock a Word document before sending it (identical layout everywhere), the reverse Word → PDF conversion is the right tool.
